Thanks, MikeWW2 M1/M1A1 Thompsons were made in 2 factories. Some applications require that different contents such as the product sequence number or MAC address be written in certain area for every chip This content is called serial number SuperPro. Are there other markings or features that might assist in confirming its authenticity? I'm trying to confirm if this is a genuine AO WWII manufactured M1 or a put together one, and what year it may have been made. The serial number is actually pretty nice I think. A similar AO prefix serial number was applied to the rear of the trigger frame. I believe it was made in the early eighties. The letters AO preceding the weapons serial number on the left side of the M1928A1 models receiver will easily identify an M1928A1 Thompson that was produced in the Auto-Ordnances Bridgeport, Connecticut plant. The serial number starts with 'AOC' and is well under 50,000, if that info is relevant. Can anyone advise me if it is correct for an Auto-Ordance WWII Thompson M1 SMG to have the serial number in the range 123xxx? Also, would a war-time Thompson made by AO have the name on the rear right-hand side of receiver 'AUTO-ORDANCE CORPORATION' with 'BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, U.S.A.' Hallo folks, i have an opportunity to buy a west hurley auto ordnance 1911. They didn't sell well and needed lots of work to get going properly.Frank.
As far as I know the machineguns built by Numrich all had the west hurley NY address and were built in the 80's. The assets of the business were apparently sold to Ira Trask of Numrich Arms who used the auto ordnance name whether he was entitled to or not. The Auto Ordnance company was really a holding company who used contractors to make and assemble guns and parts. All the M1's and M1A1's built for the real Auto Ordnance Corp were wartime guns as the design was wartime and there was no production after the war. If it was a post war gun made by Numrich arms the address would say West Hurley, NY instead of Bridgeport, CT. The Colt Patent Firearms Company of Hartford Connecticut was contracted by Auto-Ordnance to manufacture the first 15000. I think that serial range would be about right for an M1A1 and yes the address should be on the right rear.
